CAST BEHIND THE MAGIC: Meet Thibaut RETHORE-JNIENE, Energy Strategy Manager at Disneyland Paris.

Thibaut RETHORE-JNIENE is Manager, in charge of the energy strategy at Disneyland Paris. His role is to think about the future and take part in the decarbonization of the resort.

One of the biggest projects he supervised was the solar canopy plant in the guest parking lot at Disneyland Paris.

Before starting his career, Thibaut had two passions: travel and urban planning. In fact, it was after a trip to Southeast Asia that he studied the urban planning of major Asian cities.

When he joined the company, he was offered his dream job: urban planner at Disneyland Paris. He has done his job with passion and commitment for more than twenty years, integrating a sustainable dimension into the projects he worked on.

He is now concentrating on projects to reduce the environmental footprint of Disneyland Paris, more specifically in terms of energy. The solar canopy plant of Disneyland Paris is one of the most ambitious projects Thibaut has ever worked on – not only in terms of size, since the plant covers 20 hectares and 11,200 parking spaces – but also in terms of its key role in reducing the environmental footprint of the resort. Started in 2020, the project was completed at the end of 2023. The solar canopy plant is the largest of Europe, producing 36 GWh per year – equivalent to the consumption of a town of 17,400 inhabitants. It also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 890 tons of CO2 per year in the Val d’Europe territory. It even provides additional enhancements for guests, including shade and shelter from direct sunlight, rain or snow.

“My job meets the resort’s commitments toward environment but working on projects that help build a sustainable future is also a true personal commitment”.
