As part of Earth Month, Cast Members and local young people had the opportunity to attend an exceptional programme. Renowned speakers, experts committed to and passionate about the environmental cause, followed one another throughout this special day. They were also offered an introduction to herb gardening and composting, a masterclass to help them understand how they can take action on a day-to-day basis, and various stands featuring local players and the Disneyland Paris team.
The day was opened by Fabrice Bonnifet, Chairman of the College of Sustainable Development Directors. Committed to the ways in which entrepreneurs and CSR professionals can reinvent their businesses, he explained how the business world can be more sustainable through the contributive business model.
Cast Members then learned from Magda Bou Dagher Kharrat, National Geographic explorer and plant geneticist for the European Institute of Planted Forest and Saint Joseph University of Beirut, the history of forests and their adaptation to climate change and human behaviors. Science is now revealing many of the secrets buried in tree rings, soil layers and DNA traces that bear witness to the life forms that have inhabited them, offering a fascinating insight into their history and resilience.
National Geographic explorer and entomologist Tony Robillard from the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN) in Paris explained the importance of protecting insects. Through his explorations around the world, he has discovered numerous species, all of which play an essential role in our ecosystems. A subject that echoes the initiatives taken throughout the year by the Landscaping teams at Disneyland Paris to preserve wild bees and many other species.
Yann Arthus-Bertrand, author, filmmaker, photographer, founder and Chairman of the GoodPlanet Foundation, also came to share his passion and his journey through magnificent photographs taken throughout his life, showing the evolution of the planet and today’s climate challenges.
Finally, political analyst and co-author of the sixth IPCC report François Gemenne brought the day to a close with a lecture on a key issue: the role of international cooperation in the fight against global warming.
Let’s take a look at this inspiring day:
Disneyland Paris takes meaningful and measurable actions to reduce its environmental footprint. All year round, raising awareness is one of the resort’s missions through multiple initiatives.
