Visiting Disneyland Paris with Children —Tips from Fans!

Disneyland Paris is the perfect playground for the whole family, including little ones. In this happy place, all their dreams can come true, and numerous attractions and activities are dedicated to them! Do you want to visit Disneyland Paris with a child but you’re still debating? We asked several Disneyland Paris fans for tips, as they are true experts when it comes to visiting our resort!

We have regularly taken our son to Disneyland Paris since he was 3 years old. And we have never regretted it and would always go so early. I will never forget his bright eyes on his first visit or his second visit when he walked through the Star Wars shop with gasping breath and others thought he needed a doctor. These are moments you never forget. Michel, MagicDLP.de

My little sister visited Disneyland Paris for the first time when she was less than 1 year old, we went to a meal with characters and she had a lot of fun. She looked at Pluto or Tigger as giant plushes and she loved that moment! Also, you’ll be happy to see your kids having fun. Everyone is happy at Disneyland París! Mi Mundo Disney

We usually head back to the hotel for a break around noon, whether it be for a short nap, to relax at the pool or grab a snack at the bar. We go back to the parks later in the afternoon after a nice break and with our energy level back up again. Virginie, Go Disneyland Paris Conseils et Astuces

Make sure your kids wear bracelets with their name and your phone number. They could get lost during your visit, so make sure other guests or cast members can easily connect with you. Niels, @capturingdisneyparks

When you wait in line, it’s nice to have fun and easy games to play with your kids! Try to keep them busy with a trivia game, show them the details of what’s around them, make them look for Hidden Mickeys when possible as well! Fanny, Disneyland Times

Good news is that you can rent strollers in the parks. If you have an Infinity annual pass it’s even free. This is also convenient for people who can’t or don’t want to bring a stroller in their small or fully packed car, on the plane or train. Niels, @capturingdisneyparks

When going to a restaurant, we bring things to keep our daughter busy while waiting, like coloring games. It is to be noted that kids’ meals are good value for money (even more so with an Annual Pass). Disneyland Fans Paris

There are services that we all know about like Baby Care Center which enables you to take great care of babies with a few products for purchase, including baby food jars and diapers, and access to microwaves and bottle warmers for meals. Certain services help save time with the little ones, especially as they tend to get tired quickly: Extra Magic Time in the morning allows you to visit the parks with fewer people and get on rides faster. The Super Fastpass and Ultimate Fastpass (when available) to avoid lines when they’re running out of patience. Finally, the Rider Switch allows parents to take turns on thrill rides that are not suitable for younger children without having to line up again. The Shopping Service enables you not to have to overload your stroller and to collect your purchases at the end of the day, so that you can continue your experience without having to carry them with you all day. Manon, Wish 2 Dream

Baby cribs, high chairs, bottle warmers, kids’ menus, babysitting services in select hotels, and child rates…everything you can possibly need for a nice family visit in hotels and restaurants, even with little ones. Disneyland Paris Bons Plans

Don’t force the kids to pose for pictures if they don’t want to. Try to take natural photos of them having fun instead. Liz, Disneyland Paris Chat for Brits

An Exclusive Tour of Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel

One of Disneyland Paris’ most ambitious projects in recent years, Disney’s Hotel New York– The Art of Marvel, will open its doors in 2021!

A few months before the much-anticipated opening, Imagineers Sylvie Massara, artistic director for Disneyland Paris hotels, and Thomas Muller, designer-scenographer, invite us inside Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel for a sneak peek.

The project required two years of feasibility studies, then two years of construction with the help of many teams at Disneyland Paris, each bringing their unique expertise and the best of their discipline to the hotel. The construction site represents a real challenge because the hotel has been completely redesigned in a more contemporary style, immersing our guests in the ambiance of a modern New York art gallery. From the moment you enter the hotel, the spirit of New York City is reflected in the vertical architectural lines, in reference to the emblematic skyscrapers.

Marvel art is an integral part of the hotel’s transformation. With no less than 300 works on display, created by more than 95 artists, it testifies to the richness of the Marvel universe. About 50 were even specially created for the hotel! As soon as guests enter the lobby, they can discover a huge backlit comic strip, a preview of which has already been unveiled. But that’s not all: A huge showcase is ready to welcome three life-size armors of Iron Man, and the famous shield of Captain America.

The Manhattan Restaurant will display a luminous sculpture, in the form of a chandelier inspired by Manhattan in its form, but also by the kingdom of Asgard in its choice of materials and colors. This monumental sculpture measures no less than 4m in diameter, weighs 1100kg, and is composed of 255 elements.

For the Downtown Restaurant, the Imagineers were inspired by New York City delis, where one can usually find many caricatures of stars. Here, no less than 90 sketches by Marvel designers will be exhibited, making this the place with the most pieces of artwork per square meter in the hotel!

Spaces have also been thought out to meet the operational needs of cast members. The Skyline Bar’s surface area has therefore been modified, both on the floor and behind-the-scenes. “We didn’t just do a very light refurbishment; we reinvented all of the spaces to correspond with both the operational needs and those of the employees,” said Sylvie Massara.

With the Skyline Bar, the desire is to transport guests to a bar at the top of a New York City skyscraper. “The Skyline Bar has been reconstructed in 3D, a virtual reality system made possible by our Imagineer colleagues in Glendale,” said Thomas Muller. “They’ll find the shot that will be projected on these screens, a shot that is as realistic as possible and takes into consideration the positioning of the bar and particularly a view that will not make you dizzy!”

The transformation of the hotel continues on to the swimming pool called Metro Pool. It has been redesigned to evoke one of the essential elements of New York City: the subway! No detail is left to chance: on the floor there are gray markings like those found on subway platforms, typical white tiles on the walls, and even the names of some stations that Super Heroes may have used!

Through this exclusive visit, discover the transformations in what will be the very first Disney hotel dedicated to the Marvel universe.

Disneyland Paris Announces Next Step in its Resort Hotel Transformation Plan.

As final touches are made to the highly anticipated Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, due to open soon, Disneyland Paris announces a regal transformation of the iconic Disneyland Hotel, which will be the first Disney Hotel to celebrate a royal theme. This complete refurbishment is the next step in an ambitious renovation plan for all Disneyland Paris hotels spanning years and more than 5,700 rooms. The impressive transformation demonstrates Disneyland Paris’s ongoing commitment to continually invest in the guest experience and its successful strategy to infuse more beloved Disney franchises and stories into its hotels.

Disneyland Paris hotels are much more than a place to sleep – they are the best way to enjoy our resort! Beyond the many advantages such as early park access, free transportation to the parks, dedicated shopping services and even Disney character encounters, hotel guests are immersed in themed environments and compelling stories like nowhere else beyond the parks.

Following the infusion of Cars storytelling in the completely refurbished Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe and a similar approach to add Toy Story in the new guest rooms and public spaces at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne, the best example of this transformation plan is the soon-to-open four-star Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel. It will be the first Disney hotel in the world celebrating the Art of Marvel, where guests can discover more than 350 Marvel art pieces from 110 artists around the world, meet with one of their favorite Super Heroes and even dine in an atmosphere inspired by Marvel comics and movies.

Disneyland Paris is now accelerating its refurbishment plan by embarking on a transformation of the Disneyland Hotel, which will strengthen its flagship status at the resort and offer guests an even better five-star experience. This hotel is known not only for its privileged position at the entrance of Disneyland Park, but also for its impeccable service that has propelled it to be a guest favorite and the iconic resort hotel of Disneyland Paris.

The elegant Victorian architecture that guests have come to know when approaching Disneyland Park will remain, while the Disney magic that guests love will be enhanced. The Disneyland Hotel will be infused with a royal theme and become the true kingdom of many favorite Disney Princesses and Princes, from classics like Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, but also recent hits Frozen and Tangled. Guest public areas will be reimagined to pay homage to these beloved films and their characters, while all hotel rooms and suites will be entirely rethemed to offer the most immersive experience. Expect refined, creative décor and magical touches that will surprise the whole family, as only Disney can do.

“At Disneyland Paris, we create enchanting experiences for all ages,” says Sylvie Massara, Walt Disney Imagineering Paris – Design and Show Quality. “The completely refurbished Disneyland Hotel will do just that, immersing guests in a timeless royal atmosphere. Guests will be welcomed with unique refinement as soon as they enter the lobby and will stay in rooms and suites with elegant décor celebrating Disney Princesses and Princes.

To meet and exceed the ever-evolving expectations of our guests, the layout of the hotel’s public spaces and equipment in the rooms will also be enhanced to provide improved, personalized services while leveraging the latest technologies for even more comfort. Guests will benefit from a larger pool area, indulge in an expanded spa and dine in updated restaurants and bars – all adding up to the most magical experience at this stunning five-star hotel.

“When it reopens, Disneyland Hotel will offer to our guests an enhanced experience even more worthy of the prestigious French five-star hotel rating,” adds Tomás Feier, General Manager of the Disneyland Hotel. “We are proud to welcome a lot of repeat visitors at our iconic hotel, and we want them to be immersed in a 360-degree experience using the power of beloved Disney fairytales, with an array of brave and kind heroines as a central theme. Our loyal guests expect to be enchanted and surprised by their stay each time they visit us, and we take pride in delivering impeccable service to create memorable moments. A full Disneyland Paris experience can truly be achieved only when staying in one of our themed hotels, and we cannot wait to welcome guests to the Disneyland Hotel after its transformation.

Stay tuned for more details on this exciting project as it develops!

The talented European artists responsible for some of the exclusive artwork include:

French Marvel artist Olivier Coipel, famous for his work on The Avengers, Thor and Spider-Man, created a powerful representation of Thor: God of Thunder in a comic-book style, using an overlap of vibrant red and blue colors highlighting the duality between the Super Hero’s mythological and human sides and using forced perspective to bring out the action.

French Marvel artist Stéphanie Hans, featured in Marvel Comics including Asgardians of the Galaxy, Black Bolt and many more, created an impressive realistic portrait of a determined and strong Captain Marvel, depicted in full flight and surrounded by her photonic power.

UK comic book artist Tula Lotay, whose work on Marvel Comics include stories of powerful Characters like Black Widow, Gamora and Scarlet Witch, created a vibrant and strong comic-book style portrait of Black Widow whose black costume contrasts with the almost expressionistic brightly colored background.

Italian designers and twin brothers Van Orton, have created incredible pop art and almost neon-like portraits of Hulk, Captain America, Black Panther and Captain Marvel using bright and vibrant colors.

UK artist Liam Brazier, known for his geometric reinterpretations of iconic characters, created several pieces for the hotel including heroic contemporary portraits of Captain America, Thor and Hulk using saturated and bright colors as well as lines highlighting the dynamism of the Super Heroes’ poses.

Spanish artist Carlos Gomez created huge backlit black and white comic panels that will greet Guests as they enter the lobby, depicting the exciting and dynamic story of the Avengers uniting in New York City in an inclusive way, to be understandable by everyone even with no dialogue.

Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will also include a space dedicated to temporary art exhibitions, The Jack Kirby Legacy Gallery, that will showcase artworks for limited periods. This area will also offer a permanent exhibition dedicated to Jack Kirby himself – the “The King of Comics” – with 21 comic book covers drawn by this legend. It is to him that we owe the creation of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, the adventures of Thor and the Avengers. Guests eager to learn more about the stories behind the artwork displayed in the hotel lobby and Jack Kirby Legacy Gallery will be invited to call upon our Art Guardians, a selection of specially trained Cast Members with additional knowledge.

The hotel boutique has been thought of as a museum shop where guests can purchase beautiful reproductions of some of the Marvel artwork displayed in the hotel. Iconic Chandelier at Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel Gives a Taste of the Elevated Experience Coming Soon

Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel is about to open to Guests, and it is one of the most anticipated experiences coming to Disneyland Paris. The 4-star hotel has been reimagined to be the first ever hotel dedicated entirely to incredible Marvel artwork in what will be one of the largest publicly viewable collections around the world. We recently got chance to check in with Sylvie Massara, Art Director at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris – Design & Show Quality, and Thomas Muller, Scenographer, to learn about one of the hotel’s most emblematic (and most stunning) décor elements.

Q: Sylvie, Thomas, thank you for taking the time to chat. Can you tell us about yourselves?

Sylvie: As an Art Director at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris – Design & Show Quality, in charge of Disneyland Paris hotels, my role is to translate the artistic direction defined by our creative leadership into designs that make most of the available space, while working well for our operations partners who will bring the experience to life for guests every day. I lead a small team of four – including Thomas – who handle the overall management of the project.

Thomas: A scenographer by trade, I assist Sylvie with the operational monitoring of the project, including consulting with contractors, supervising efforts on the construction sites and remaining connected with Imagineers based in Glendale, California, who are responsible for all things Marvel.

Q: Tell us more about this chandelier. What’s so special about it? How does it fit within the storytelling of the reimagined hotel?

Sylvie: We used most of 2020 to finalize fixtures and install mural elements – including a very special chandelier. For the Manhattan Restaurant, we wanted to recreate the elegant atmosphere of a high-end New York dining experience where references to Marvel art are subtle and contemporary art prevails. We also wanted a central element to “wow” Guests. The idea of a magnificent sculptural piece of lighting came up. This chandelier, with its inverted-pyramid shape, fits well in the technical constrains of the building, while its shape, material and color evoke the realm of Asgard, all the while alluding to Manhattan skyscrapers.

Q: What’s the history of this impressive piece of décor? Any fun anecdotes?

Sylvie: To produce this unique piece of décor, I was looking to partner with a vendor that would combine unrivalled expertise at working with metal and glass, a close understanding of the artistic demands, and capability to deliver the contemporary, elegant look and feel we were looking for. Back in 2017, we identified several vendors, all based in Prague, Czech Republic – known worldwide as home to Bohemian crystal craft. We partnered with Lasvit, a vendor that assigned a dedicated designer to the project, and we were on the same wavelength from the start. Each component was glass-blown traditionally in Bohemian crystal glass. We played with the champagne, amber and light crystal colors. In addition, each component is silver-plated from the inside with pure silver. Some elements are twisted or shaped as trapezes of various sizes in order to epitomize inverted New York skyscrapers. There are more than 225 glass pieces in this four-meter-tall chandelier that took a year to create.

Thomas: Many of the challenges we’ve encountered along the way had to do with the integration of this out-of-the-norm chandelier into the existing structure. First, the ceiling it hangs from had to be reinforced. To support that weight, we integrated a metallic structure in the concrete slab covered by a metallic color board. Also, the ceiling has integrated technical tubing, and we even rerouted the air conditioning system to accommodate it.

Q: How do you expect Guests to react when they first visit the hotel, and in particular, when they discover the chandelier?

Sylvie: From the outset, we have wanted this chandelier to become an iconic element of the Guest experience. Obviously, it takes a holistic approach to the experience to achieve this result. For example, we work with a lighting designer to ensure that all lighting fixtures in the restaurant provide an atmosphere that allows the chandelier to revel in all its beauty. Let’s take a look at an exclusive preview of the Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, including a presentation of the Manhattan Restaurant with Thomas.

Interview with France Rougeot, Housekeeping Manager at Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel

  • Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your role at Disneyland Paris?

Right now, I am preparing for the opening of Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel. I was recruited in Fall 2019 to be Housekeeping Manager. Along with my team, we are in charge of the well-being of our Guests. We prepare their rooms before their arrival and assist them with their wishes right up until their departure. I am like the homemaker with the responsibility of ensuring that our Guests are comfortable and that the team is too. Everything must constantly be cleaned and maintained. I work with my team, hand in hand, as well as with all the hotel teams (Maintenance, Front Office, Concierge, Floral Decorators, etc.) and service providers (linen, amenities, etc.)

  • Tell us about your career at Disneyland Paris.

I had previously been at the Ritz Hotel in Paris for four and a half years, and I wanted to discover another type of hotel. So, at the end of 1995, I joined the Disneyland Hotel as Assistant Housekeeper and then was appointed Housekeeping Manager of Disney’s Hotel New York in October 1998. I stayed for five years before returning to the Disneyland Hotel, and then in 2019, I transferred again to prepare for the opening of Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel.

  • Where does your affinity for Disney come from, and more specifically to Disneyland Paris?

I discovered this extraordinary Disney universe! I believe that Walt Disney was a visionary. I discovered multicultural teams and their real open-mindedness.

  • How did you join the adventure of Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel?

Starting in February 2019, I participated in the rewriting of an operational guide for my profession while preparing the opening of the hotel. It therefore seemed natural for me to want to apply for the Housekeeping Manager role and live this new heroic adventure!

  • In your opinion, what makes the hotel opening so original and unique?

For the first time since opening in 1992, a Disney hotel has undergone a transformation on a massive scale. We now have a hotel that is unique around the world, immersing guests in the atmosphere of a modern art gallery with more than 350 works of art on display. You can even see Spider-Man! The energy of New York City, the iconic city of the Marvel Universe, is also very much present.

  • What were your first steps in the hotel?

My first visit to the construction site was in Spring 2019. It had a profound impact on me. Only the walls of Disney’s Hotel New York were left. Disneyland Paris was ready to build a completely new hotel.

  • Can you introduce us to your team? How many people are on it?

If you include our service providers, we are about 120 people in all.

  • As a leader, how do you guide your team on this new adventure?

The Cast Members and the Team Leaders wanted to join the hotel, they are very happy and motivated to be here.

For the moment, we are putting everything in place – preparing and distributing Cast costumes, setting up our cleaning service providers, following up on the cleaning of the entire hotel – inside and out – after construction work is completed, getting the linens ready, verifying that everything is ready in the rooms, even down to the soap and stationary. We all have responsibilities, and we move forward together every day.

Spanish artist Carlos Gomez created huge backlit black and white comic panels that greet Guests as they enter the lobby, depicting the exciting and dynamic story of the Avengers uniting in New York City in an inclusive way, to be understandable by everyone even with no dialogue.

Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel also includes a space dedicated to temporary art exhibitions, The Jack Kirby Legacy Gallery, that showcases artworks for limited periods. This area also offers a permanent exhibition dedicated to Jack Kirby himself – the “The King of Comics” – with 21 comic book covers drawn by this legend. Guests eager to learn more about the stories behind the artwork displayed in the hotel lobby and Jack Kirby Legacy Gallery are invited to call upon our Art Guardians, a selection of specially trained Cast Members with additional knowledge.

Discover one of the world’s largest collections of Marvel art with Thomas Muller, Scenographe

After several years of transformation, Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel opened its doors on June 21. Thomas Muller, Scenographer for Walt Disney Imagineering Paris Design & Show Quality, tells us more about his role in opening Disney’s first ever hotel dedicated to Marvel art.

With more than 350 works of art on display in the common areas, Guests at Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel can now experience one of the largest collections of Marvel art available to the public. “We often talk about the number of pieces, but that’s not counting the ones in the guest rooms and suites, making a total of more than 1,500 Marvel-themed decorative elements throughout the hotel,” Thomas explains.

Thomas joined the Walt Disney Imagineering Paris teams in 2018 just before the hotel’s transformation began, becoming familiar with the plans and designs drawn up by Sylvie Massara, Art Director, Walt Disney Imagineering Paris Design & Show Quality. In collaboration with his fellow Imagineers in Glendale, California, Thomas was responsible for the development and installation of the hundreds of works of art that make Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel a unique experience, immersing Guests in the atmosphere of a New York City art gallery. “You have to think about it beforehand and know exactly where you are going to put this or that painting. After that, we identify the Super Hero we want to highlight and how the art will look in the environment where it’s displayed. Several artistic trends are represented: realism, comics, pop art and street art. In total, 110 artists specialists in Marvel art have contributed to the realization of the art pieces.

Among the most impressive is the gigantic backlit comic book in the lobby, the heart of the space. Designed by Spanish artist Carlos Gomez, it was conceived in black and white for traditional comic book style, and without text so all visitors can understand it regardless of their nationality.

Also in the lobby, Guests can admire some of the most iconic Marvel Super Heroes, engraved on huge columns. “It took almost fifty hours to engrave one panel. It looks absolutely stunning in the light,” says Thomas. The hotel’s exterior is not to be outdone, as the sports field in the Hero Training Zone also features a huge work of art that can be seen in its entirety from the sky. In the Jack Kirby Legacy Gallery, Guests will discover a permanent exhibition of 21 comic book covers, which require careful study to find small hidden images. The space, named after the legendary “King of Comics,” was designed to accommodate temporary exhibitions as well.

To reinforce the feeling of being immersed in a New York City art gallery, Cast Members from the reception and concierge areas are trained on the various artistic trends represented. Guests can request guided tours at the reception desk – these ‘Art Guardians’ have plenty to share with Guests about the many works of art exhibited in the hotel.

The main challenge encountered during this transformation period was to completely reinvent the hotel from an already existing base and structure. “We had to stay true to the identity of the building while giving it a new energy and giving our Guests and Cast Members the impression that we are in a new place. I believe we were successful with this challenge!”
