Many Cast Members gave some of their time throughout the summer to accompany the children of the Secours populaire français and help them spend unforgettable moments at Disneyland Paris. Indeed, one out of every three children in France does not leave on vacation. Consequently the association which focuses on helping the under privileged goes out of its way to offer these children moments when they can get away from it all, in many regions of the country. The campaign was launched at Disneyland Paris, a partner of SPF for the last 25 years, and which welcomed over 7000 children this summer.
Because solidarity has no borders, it took on a world dimension last 18 August when the Disney VoluntEARS welcomed 250 children from 25 different countries for an unique experience. Among other activities they took part in a pre-parade on Main Street, U.S. with Mickey and friends, as well as with Julien Lauprêtre, President of Secours populaire français.
On 19 August the Disney VoluntEARS went out to the Champs de Mars in Paris to take part in the Festival des vacances solidaires (Festival of solidarity vacations) and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the association. Throughout the day they led fun-filled workshops which the 50 000 children present greatly enjoyed. Disney VoluntEARS cowboys and Indians, from the famous show at Disney Village “The Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show with Mickey and friends”, were also present to share their culture and show-off their talent. Nod to history, as 110 years earlier the real Buffalo Bill presented his show at the same location, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower! Finally, a great number of artists gave a concert and an impressive flashmob wrapped up this unique day in flying colours!
“Disneyland® Paris has created privileged links with the Secours Populaire français over more than 21 years and this day illustrates that beautifully! I am proud of seeing the commitment of our VoluntEars who do not hesitate to always go a step further to offer all these children moments rich in excitement and discoveries, and I wish to sincerely thank them.” declared Annabel Altmann, Senior Manager Corporate Citizenship.
