The Disneyland Paris Shaker Challenge celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. This contest – recognized by restaurant and hotel professionals the world over – has highlighted our resort’s savoir faire since 1997. On 24 November, the 17th edition of the Disneyland Paris Shaker Challenge named this year’s winner: Charlie Rambeau, barman at the Captain’s Quarters at Disney’s Newport Bay Club®. His creation will soon be available on the menus of Disneyland Paris bars and hotels across the resort. The Shaker Challenge is where theory meets practice, as it tests competitors’ sense of service as well as their knowledge about cocktail recipes and ingredients. Creativity is the name of the game, as they must dream up and produce their own original cocktails. Next, it was the cooks’ turn in the spotlight as they displayed their expertise, creativity, and their unique skills, creating sumptuous dishes from their own recipes. Last but not least, sommeliers took their turn as they sniffed and swilled their way through the sommelier contest which covered many diverse regions and grapes – no problem for these experts. For the first time this year, the Shaker Challenge welcomed coffee connoisseurs. Our baristas, who work in bars and restaurants around the resort, also got the chance to share their knowledge about the art of a well-pulled espresso or a perfectly creamy latte – created and served as is befitting this art form. The Shaker Challenge began as a way for competitors to increase their knowledge and skills, as well as their performance, while fine-tuning their personal development. By raising the “bar” of drink and food quality, we ensure that our guests can fully enjoy a fantastic experience, from the first before-dinner drink to the last drop of coffee. The ultimate objective is to give these young food- and drink-lovers the opportunity to enter ever-more prestigious competitions, nationally and internationally.
