Today, the Disney Halloween Festival (that will be launched next week) is as popular with Guests as it was at its creation in 1997. Now in its 18th year, the teams behind the Festival have worked together harder than ever before in order to offer new adventures in the parks, in the boutiques, and even in the restaurants.
A Winning Team
Last year, Maleficent’s giant brambles took over the courtyard of Fantasyland. This idea was dreamed up by the season’s set designer, Jérôme Picoche, and brought to life by the Show Decoration Workshop teams, under the direction of Axelle Vié. “We had to take technical restrictions into consideration (the brambles had to be hollow and translucent to let the LED light shine through), while staying loyal to the creative vision. We also used the movies Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent as references,” revealed Axelle. Stéphanie Barzic and Michaël Bouaziz worked on the sculpture and the moulding, respectively, for a prototype, which gave an idea of spatial scope and helped establish a production plan, before the actual creation was sent out to an external firm. This year, the stage at the Sleeping Beauty Castle will also include brambles as part of its set for new planned entertainment. The brambles, which surround the cauldron on the set, were completely fabricated by Nicolas Vivet and his team in their workshop.
Because Disneyland Paris has got a taste for putting on a show, the Food & Beverage department will be offering Halloween-coloured treats all along Main Street, U.S.A., as well as a special menu at the Lucky Nugget Saloon. The food will be enhanced by the unseen talents of Cyrille Soreau, our food and vegetable sculptor, adding an extra touch of magic. When Cyril isn’t decorating buffets and restaurants for special events, his talent is used to enhance the Guest experience, creating seasonal activities with his art. For his Halloween creations, the pumpkin is king! This year, Cyril will set up his sculpture workshop at Frontierland, just in front of the Lucky Nugget Saloon. There’s no doubt that the fruits of his labour will be a hit with Guests, as they’re continually impressed with his work.
Just a few days before the season opens on October 1st, Director Emmanuel Lenormand can’t hide his excitement. “Introduced last year in the Court of the Sleeping Beauty Castle, Maleficent’s spell and enormous brambles will stretch to the Royal Castle Stage, where there will be a new chance to meet Disney Villains. Mickey’s Halloween Celebration keeps getting bigger, and thanks to our teams’ collaboration the Halloween spirit will be everywhere. For example, the Halloween costumes worn by Mickey and Minnie will also be worn by stuffed animals for sale by Merchandise. I can’t wait to see the Guests’ reactions!” he exclaimed.
