The last session of Animagique took place this Sunday, 31 January. The show had been performed in The Walt Disney Studios Park since it opened in 2002. A great number of fans, accompanied by Cast Members who came to applaud their colleagues, held back their tears as the curtain went down for the last time after 14 spectacular years. Animagique Theater will reopen on 2 July with a new production, Mickey and the Magician.
The public of this last show included essentially Cast Members and fans who all came to admire the impressive light effects, inspired from the Black Light Theatre in Prague, and the Chinese inspired marionette techniques of Animagique. The show has always been crowned with the memorable original sound track arranged by Disneyland Paris musical director Vasile Sirli.
Sonia Demay, Disneyland Paris Ambassador and Katy Harris, the show director since 2000, also took the floor, shared their memories and thanked the wonderful teams who worked on –and under-the stage for nearly 14 years.
The show ran its usual twenty minutes. But it was followed by a particular public who burst into applause at the appearance of each character or at each special effect. They all took part in the iconic “Under the sea” before reacting to the grand final with a standing ovation and a cloud of confetti.
The public was offered an extra treat for this last special show, as they discovered a heart-warming video with declarations from the Cast Members who have worked at Animagique, some of them since the beginning of this great adventure! You can watch it here-under.
Now emotion must give way to innovation. And indeed, as of 2 July this year, the Animagique Theater will host a brand new production created especially for Disneyland Paris, Mickey and the Magician. We wish them the same success as Animagique!
