Everyone likes to believe that a coin thrown into a fountain brings good luck. At Disneyland® Paris many guests gladly submit to this ritual during their visit. But where do all these coins go? Well, for over 22 years Cast Members have collected them when they wash the basins in order to hand them to the Paris Hospitals foundation (Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris -Hôpitaux de France). This is our way of participating in the Pièces Jaunes operation. An explanation on how it works..
A Treasure Hunt at Fantasyland
On Monday 6 October Cast Members from Fantasyland joined VoluntEARS from the Community Relations team and played gold diggers when the attraction Le Pays des Contes de Fées was being emptied. They slipped into their boots, took shovels and brushes in hand and set off to recover the coins thrown in the basins by the guests.
In one single morning they recovered four bags of ten kilos each, full of coins. This booty was added to the twenty bags that had already been collected at the attraction “it’s a small world”.
The coins were entrusted to the Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France, chaired by Bernadette Chirac, which organises the Pièces Jaunes operation each year in the month of January.
Side by side with Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France
For over 22 years Disneyland Paris has intervened in hospitals to bring children joy and magic. Disney characters and VoluntEARS visit them in hospital and offer them various activities.
Disneyland Paris has been a partner of Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris Hôpitaux de France for a long time and is naturally associated with the operations it carries out.
On 8 January 2014 for example, Mickey, Minnie and all the cowboys and Indians from Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show were present at Hôpital Necker-Enfants Malades for the launching of the 25th edition of the Pièces Jaunes operation to present a show to the hospitalised children.
The next Pièces Jaunes operation will take place from 7 January to 15 February 2015. Disneyland Paris will once again support this great initiative.
