Through its awareness-raising activities, Disneyland Paris assures its commitment in favor of the aid of childhood and by supporting UNICEF’s global campaign #EarlyMomentsMatter. Launched in January, the aim of the #EarlyMomentsMatter campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of nourishment, play and love in the earliest years of a child’s life for the optimum development of the brain. On the occasion of Father’s Day, June 18, UNICEF is launching a digital “Super Dads” activation that invites internet users to share photos and videos of family moments which show interaction between fathers and their children, with the #EarlyMomentsMatter hashtag. Disneyland Paris has been an active supporter of the children in need’s cause. Every year, Universal Children’s Day is an opportunity for Disney VoluntEARS (volunteer cast members of Disneyland Paris) to play host to children with magical moments in our parks and to raise awareness with UNICEF for the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child. Disneyland Paris shows its commitment to Universal Children’s Day and reaffirms its commitment to children through its awareness activities. The Walt Disney Company, which is based in the United States, is also very committed to childhood and UNICEF. In 1964, before the first Disneyland Park in Anaheim was even 10 years old, Walt Disney and his engineers (among others) were asked to design the UNICEF pavilion for the New York World’s Fair. The theme of the fair, peace through understanding other nations, inspired the creator of Mickey Mouse to come up with a musical cruise sailing amid dolls from all over the world, singing in unison the now legendary ode to global harmony: ‘It’s a small world’. More than 50 years later, this association with UNICEF is seen in the socially responsible events organised by the Action Citoyenne team of Disneyland Paris. In 2014, during the 50th anniversary of the ‘It’s a small world’ attraction, Disneyland Paris cast members carefully prepared themselves to honour the spirit of harmony. Songs sung by awe-struck children, cast members happy to be part of a project of such magnitude and such universality, renowned guests – all the right ingredients for a unique celebration.
