Everyone knows that today Disneyland® Paris, inaugurated in 1992, is Europe’s number one tourist destination. And not only! Did you know Disneyland Paris is also Europe’s number one business tourism integrated site? Conventions, seminars, congresses, gala evenings, team-building and even sports events are the daily activities at the destination.
In 1992 Disneyland Paris did not only carry out the “Grand Opening” of its first theme park, seven hotels and Disney Village. It also opened the New York Coliseum Convention Center, the first of its two convention centers. The aim was to satisfy another clientele, the business tourists.
The center is integrated to the hotel with the same name, Disney’s Hotel New York®, and it currently offers 5 000 m² of modular space. In October 1997, the second convention center was inaugurated, Disney’s Newport Bay Club with an additional 5 500m² of modular space to welcome professionals and host their events.
Disneyland Paris offers today close to 20 000 m² to host nearly 850 events per year, managed directly by the Disneyland Paris Business Solutions teams.
In order to understand the importance business tourism and event management represents for the destination, DisneylandParis-News.com met with Nicolas Dupeux. He had been a client of Disneyland Paris Business Solutions, and today he is its director.
Could you please present the Disneyland Paris Business Solutions structure to us?
“Business Solutions exists since the inauguration of the park was being prepared. Prior to the official public opening, Business Solutions organized a series of exclusive events for small groups in order to present the theme park, the hotels and all of its infrastructures. An important number of celebrities from the political world, the press and the media in general were the guests of honor of formal dinners, concerts and prestigious events.
Today, Business Solutions has a team of nearly 150 persons who cover some twenty different fields and offer their expertise in sales, design, organization, production, etc.”
Why is Disneyland Paris an ideal venue for events?
Disneyland Paris is a unique venue, for many reasons. When businesses organize their events here, they can benefit from Disney, from its culture, from its strongly rooted values and from its heritage. Our clients discover a true, complete experience.
We represent a destination that can host and organize all types of events, encompassing all the services inherent to such an organization. But our difference also resides in the storytelling we offer which gives a unique value to our destination.
It is also ideal because the destination is “all in one” logistically speaking and is geographically easy to access, whether by car, RER, TGV, bus, or plane with the CDG Roissy airport some ten minutes away.
In short, we offer unique logistics and all the expertise necessary to our profession while capitalizing on the values of a brand that is a synonym of imagination, magic and quality experience. I know of no other competing destination capable of having as many assets to offer its clients.
What is the place of Disneyland Paris on the business tourism market?
We have a great number of competitors, but none is truly comparable. In the first place there are cities such as Barcelona or Deauville with the practical aspect of their convention centers and large hotels close to one another. These destinations are capable of hosting groups as important as ours. But they cannot count on capitalizing on any powerful storytelling nor offer an experience as strong as ours.
It is also the case of certain large convention centers that can host events, whether in Paris or in the province, but they are often limited to hosting and organizing.
Certain amusement parks like Parc Astérix have an experience to tell. But contrary to Disneyland Paris, it will not be rooted in values as strong as ours and they cannot offer hotels, catering and transportation that come together in one same venue.
Finally, among our competitors on the convention market, we have the major hotel chains. They offer rooms, restaurants and large meeting rooms. But they sell a product with a spirit that has nothing to do with that of Disneyland Paris.
As you can understand, what I am aiming at is the fact that we organize events with values and a strong story behind them. Business Solutions is a talented team at the service of events, with a touch of Disney magic. Service, creativity and innovation are the values that are inherent to the Disney DNA.
Prior to being Director of Business Solutions, you were one of its clients. Can you describe one’s experience of an event à Disneyland Paris?
It is a very positive experience, simply because it is pleasant, easy, accessible and practical! One knows you can find everything and when you are a client that is very reassuring. And there is a true notion of pleasure for the participants.
What is your vision for Business Solutions?
My vision – as a former client – is for Business Solutions to be increasingly focused on its clients. It is primordial that our professional clients always feel well taken charge of in spite of the fact that we work in a large tourist destination. To get to that point we must listen to their needs and be proactive, offer them an experience that flows easily and implement services with an added value. All of this aims at forever improving their experience with us.
Last but not least we intend to be in line with the major event tendencies of the future, in particular with digital and numerical technologies, and better yet, anticipate them!
What event organized by Business Solutions has most impressed you?
As a client, I remember a convention I organized here for a sports brand, a few years ago. I discovered how easy it is to organize and manage an event at Disneyland Paris even though the logistics were complex and the technology for the event very ambitious. We managed to find a true dynamics between work and entertainment. I met with teams who offered expertise that went beyond our expectations. Aside from the logistics, there was a whole series of experts who were at the service of the event to guarantee its organization. It was a very positive experience. We always found solutions to our questions and problems.
Once I became director of Business Solutions, I discovered there was still countless expertise and know-how that allow to imagine and to produce the most awesome projects. It is true: the only limit is that of our imagination!
